2016 Key West
I
should have mentioned earlier
that
Saturday night a couple of tornadoes and rainstorms hit Florida. The
seas have been rough and the winds blowing at 40 knots, which is
close to 80 km/h. Because of the winds, we had to dock at the Navy
base and be shuttled into Key West. The wind has not subsided and
much to our chagrin, there were two other cruise ships in port.
Trying to move around the town was pretty much a challenge. Even
with wide sidewalks, you were jostling to stay on them and not be
thrown into the traffic. Key West is pretty much a beach town, built
in the early 1900s, with interesting architecture and a twist in that
there are about 3000 chickens running around as a result of the
banning of cockfighting after which they were turned loose. It is
noted for being Truman's Winter White House when he was in power.
Earnest Hemingway also lived and worked here. Unfortunately, we did
not have a chance to try the famous Key Lime Pie due to the crowds
