2016 – St Thomas USVI
W
e
docked in Charlotte Amalie which is considered one of the most
beautiful harbours in the world. It's main claim to fame is
duty-free shopping and we were disappointed that its historic sites
including Blackbeard's Castle were closed on a Friday – and with
two cruise ships in port. St Thomas was a Danish colony from 1666 to
1917 when it became part of the USVI. Just goes to show that
Americans are not interested in promoting anyone's history other than
their own.
Although it may be
hard to tell in the photo, the “Taxi” is a flatbed truck with 5
to 7 rows of benches welded to the floor. Our first taxi to town had
less space than Air Canada! The other photo is that of a sugar cane
mill.
